Ingredients
- 12 soft Hawaiian rolls (or any soft dinner rolls), split apart
- 12 slices deli ham (thinly sliced; honey ham optional)
- 8 slices Swiss cheese (or cheddar, provolone, or pepper jack)
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard (or honey mustard)
- 1 tablespoon poppy seeds (optional)
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter or non-stick spray.
- Using a sharp knife, slice the rolls in half horizontally, keeping them connected for easier assembly.
- Place the bottom half of the rolls into the prepared baking dish. Arrange ham slices evenly over the bread, overlapping slightly. Layer Swiss cheese slices on top of the ham.
- Place the top half of the rolls over the cheese, pressing gently to secure.
- In a mixing bowl, combine melted butter, Dijon mustard, poppy seeds (if using), Worcestershire sauce, onion powder, garlic powder, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Whisk until smooth.
- Using a basting brush or spoon, generously brush the glaze over the tops and sides of the rolls.
- Cover the dish and let sit at room temperature for 10-15 minutes to let the glaze absorb into the rolls.
- Cover the dish loosely with aluminum foil and bake for 15 minutes, until cheese melts and rolls are heated through.
- Remove foil and bake another 5 minutes, or until tops are golden brown and slightly crisp.
- Let cool for 5 minutes, then cut sliders apart with a sharp knife. Serve warm.
Notes
For best results, use King’s Hawaiian rolls and Boar’s Head or Hillshire Farm ham. Substitute cheese and rolls as needed for dietary preferences. Assemble ahead and refrigerate up to 12 hours before baking. For gluten-free, use certified gluten-free rolls and check Worcestershire sauce. If cheese isn’t fully melted, bake an extra 2-3 minutes. Don’t skip greasing the pan to prevent sticking.
