Ingredients
Scale
- 12 oz tagliatelle or your favorite pasta
- 1 cup tomato sauce (canned or homemade)
- 4 oz cream cheese (full-fat recommended)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for spice)
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
- ¼ cup reserved pasta water
- ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional, for extra creaminess)
- 1 tablespoon fresh basil, chopped (plus extra for garnish)
Instructions
- Boil the pasta: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook pasta until al dente, according to package instructions. Reserve ¼ cup of pasta water before draining.
- Sauté the aromatics: In a large pan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and red pepper flakes, and sauté for 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Add tomato sauce: Pour in the tomato sauce and season with Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper. Simmer for 2-3 minutes.
- Melt the cream cheese: Add cream cheese to the pan, stirring until fully melted and combined with the sauce. Use reserved pasta water to thin the sauce if needed.
- Combine with pasta: Toss the cooked pasta in the sauce, ensuring each strand is coated. Stir in grated Parmesan and fresh basil for added flavor.
- Serve immediately: Garnish with extra fresh basil and more Parmesan cheese if desired. Enjoy warm!
Notes
- Make it spicy: Add extra red pepper flakes or a dash of hot sauce.
- Protein boost: Stir in grilled chicken, shrimp, or crispy tofu for a heartier meal.
- Vegetable additions: Try adding sautéed spinach, mushrooms, or roasted bell peppers.
- Storage: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat on the stovetop with a splash of milk to maintain creaminess.
- Dairy-free option: Use coconut cream or cashew cream instead of cream cheese.
