Ingredients

Scale
  • For the Donut Dough:

    • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
    • ¼ cup granulated sugar
    • 1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) active dry yeast
    • ½ tsp salt
    • ¾ cup warm milk (110°F)
    • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
    • 1 large egg
    • 1 tsp vanilla extract
    • Vegetable oil (for frying)
  • For the Chocolate Frosting:

    • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
    • ¼ cup heavy cream
    • 1 tbsp butter
    • ½ tsp vanilla extract
    • 1 tbsp corn syrup (for shine, optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough:

    • In a bowl, whisk together warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
    • Add melted butter, egg, and vanilla. Stir to combine.
    • Slowly add flour and salt, mixing until a sticky dough forms.
    • Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth.
    • Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  2. Shape & Cut the Donuts:

    • Roll out the dough to ½-inch thickness.
    • Use a donut cutter or a glass to cut out circles. Use a small cutter for the hole.
    • Place on a parchment-lined tray and let rise for 30 minutes.
  3. Fry the Donuts:

    • Heat 2 inches of vegetable oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C).
    • Fry 2-3 donuts at a time for 1-2 minutes per side, until golden brown.
    • Remove and drain on paper towels.
  4. Make the Chocolate Frosting:

    • In a microwave-safe bowl, combine chocolate chips, heavy cream, and butter.
    • Microwave in 30-second bursts, stirring until smooth.
    • Stir in vanilla extract and corn syrup for shine.
  5. Frost the Donuts:

    • Dip each cooled donut into the warm chocolate glaze.
    • Let excess drip off, then place on a rack to set.
  6. Serve & Enjoy:

    • Sprinkle with chopped nuts, sprinkles, or coconut flakes for extra texture.
    • Best enjoyed fresh!
